When we found out that a Brooklyn-based, small batch, handcrafted granola company was making granola with ground coffee and organic dark chocolate – we had to learn more! So we reached out to founder Alex Crosier, and here’s what she told us…
“Granola Lab is synonymous with boldly flavored granolas with a homemade texture. We make it by hand in our little factory, so we’re able to maintain that crunchy-yet-fresh mouthfeel that mass-produced brands can’t. We’re health conscious, but use just enough sugar to hit that tasty sweet-spot. We’re also known for innovative flavor combinations. Our Activation Energy granola (for example) includes freshly ground coffee and dairy-free, organic dark chocolate that permeate every bite.
My first batches of home-made granola were close to what became the first Granola Lab flavor: Cranberry Cashew Compound. I kept tinkering with that recipe – adding more cloves, cutting down on the sugar, etc. – until it seemed just right. It’s interesting that Cranberry Cashew Compound is still our most popular flavor on store shelves!
(Lately) I’ve been thinking about an earthy, green granola made with moringa and spirulina. It’s just in the theoretical stage, but come January, I’ll be experimenting in the Laboratory again!”
